Harold W. Young

Harold W. Young, 80, of Cedar Falls died at his home in Cedar Falls Wednesday, May 3.

Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday morning at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls.

Burial was at 2:00 p.m. at the Masonic Cemetery in Des Moines.

Harold, the son of Charles E. and Gertrude Jennings Young, was born September 9, 1897, in Sigourney, Iowa.

He attended the Colfax schools and was a graduate of the class of 1915.

He married Margaret L. Leech December 14, 1928, in Des Moines.

He lived in Des Moines several years before moving to Cedar Falls.

A retired general agent for the Rock Island Lines, he was a member of the Waterloo Transportation Club, the Cedar Falls Historical Society, Masonic Lodge, Elks Lodge, American Legion and First Presbyterian Church in Cedar Falls.

He also worked with the Boy Scouts and School Board in Cedar Falls.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret of Cedar Falls; one son, Sam E. of Cedar Rapids; one daughter, Mrs. Terry (Helen Mari) Ley of Auburn, Alabama; two brothers, Charles E. of Shelton, Washington, and Thomas of Knoxville; four sisters, Mary Y. Munford of Palo Alto, California, Gertrude Kunze of Colfax, Mrs. Rheinholdt (Miriam) Weissinger of Sequim, Washington, and Mrs. Dennis (Helen) Gilbert of Lime Springs, Washington; two grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister. ~ The Jasper County Tribune, Colfax, Iowa, Thursday, May 11, 1979
