Claude Battles Dies Tuesday

Claude Battles, 72, died at his home in Colfax Tuesday night, May 2.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 5, at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax. Burial will be in the Mitchellville Cemetery. ~ The Jasper County Tribune, May 4, 1978

Claude Battles Services Held

Claude Battles, 72, a resident of Colfax since 1971, died Tuesday evening, May 2, at his home.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 5, at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax.

The Rev. Robert Jones, pastor of the Christian Church in Colfax, conducted services. Burial was in the Mitchellville Cemetery.

Mr. Battles also resided in the Farrar and Valeria area.

Survivors are a son, Royal of Colfax; a daughter, Mr. Fred (Ramona) Swanson of Newton; and four grandsons.

Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Ardyce Hurst of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, and Mrs. Howard (Doris) Dunlavy of Mitchellville; and three brothers, Harold of Newton, Gerald of Des Moines and Kenneth of Polk City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.

Mr. Battles was a member of the Ira United Methodist Church.

The son of Frederick and Agnes Boucher Battles, he was born December 26, 1905 in Jasper County.

Organist: Mrs. Frank B. Evans. Vocalist: Edward J. Gannon.

Casket bearers: Carroll Battles, Gary battles, Robert Battles, Harold Maxwell, Larry Dunlavy, Avery Hurst, Cleo Hardenbrook, Merle Planalp.
