WILLIAMS-Marvin Leonard Wahlert, 90, of Williams, died Sunday, July 7, 2002, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Services will be held Wednesday, July 10 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Williams, with burial in the Williams Cemetery. Rev. Tom Hunt will officiate. Military rites will be provided by the American Legion Post No. 633 of Williams.
Marvin was born Aug. 20, 1911, in Exira to Edward and Ida Jacobsen Wahlert. He graduated from Exira High School and served in the United States Army from 1942-45 in the European Theatre. He received the Bronze Star. On Dec. 2, 1945, he married Edna Kingsbury at her home in Nevada. Marvin was farmer and a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williams. He was a 50-year member of the Williams American Legion. Marvin enjoyed the seasons of farming, especially the harvest and was able to help his son and grandson for many years.
He is survived by a daughter, Alice Bowden of Williams; a son, Wayne, and wife Connie of Williams; a grandson, Wade Wahlert, of Williams and a granddaughter, Holly Muench, and husband Mark of Pilot Mound; a great-granddaughter, Jayden Muench; two sisters, Ruby Heath of Exira and Ramona Adair and husband Don of Englewood, Colo.; and a brother, Leonard Wahlert, and wife Irene of Exira. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Edna; a son, Bryan; three brothers, Franklin, Dayle and Arnold; and a sister, Florence Nelsen.
Surls Funeral Home of Williams is in charge of arrangements.
