ELDORA-Gary Alan Hornung, 58, of rural Eldora died of Burkitt's lymphoma leukemia Friday, May 31, 2002, at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls. Services were held Monday, June 3 at Salem United Methodist Church in Hubbard with burial in the Hubbard Cemetery.

Gary was born April 18, 1944, in Inglewood, Calif., to Arvene and Marjorie Thoms Hornung. He graduated from Hubbard High School in 1962 and attended Buena Vista College where he graduated with a teaching degree. On Aug. 21, 1964, he married Jane Hartman in Hubbard. They moved to Idaho where he taught school for seven years. In 1971 they moved back to the family farm at Hubbard to farm with his father. In 1997 they moved to the South Fork area north of Hubbard. Gary was a teacher, farmer and businessman. He and his wife owned and operated Hornung Cycle Center that moved from the garage to a thriving business in Hubbard. He also raised show cattle. He was a member of the Salem Methodist Church where he served as trustee. He enjoyed taking his family on trips to Idaho to ride scooters.

He is survived by his wife, Jane, of rural Eldora; a daughter, Melanie Kulow and husband Steve of Iowa Falls; a son, Troy Hornung, and wife Tina of Hubbard; four grandchildren, Adam Kulow, Daniel Hornung, Jordan Kulow and Dana Hornung; his mother, Marjorie Hornung, of Hubbard; two brothers, Richard Hornung of Madrid and Wayne Hornung of Cedar Falls. He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents.

Boeke Funeral Homes of Hubbard was in charge of arrangements.
