IOWA FALLS-Dorothy G. Newby, 91, of Iowa Falls, died Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls. Services were held Monday, May 20, at the United Methodist Church in Owasa, with burial in the Eldora Cemetery. Rev. Ward Richards Jr. officiated.

Dorothy was born April 30, 1911, at Owasa, to Harry and Hattie Pearce Costello. She attended and graduated from Owasa Community Schools and on Sept. 13, 1928, she married George Bowman at Marshalltown. He died in 1937, and she married Wayne Newby on Aug. 29, 1940, who died in 1971. She was a cook for the Owasa Community School and a nurses' aide for the Iowa Veteran's Home in Marshalltown and the Valley View Nursing Home in Eldora.

She is survived by a son, Jack Bowman and wife, Mary, of Iowa Falls; six grandchildren, Doug Bowman and wife, Linda, of Iowa Falls, Kurtland Bowman and wife, Judy, of Plymouth, Minn., Dawn Bowman and friend, Bud Crosser, of Eldora; Linette Worsford and husband, Joel, of Johnston, and Rick and Brett Newby-Meyer; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Dwayne Newby, two husbands; and a brother, Merle Costello.

Linn's Funeral Home of Iowa Falls, was in charge of arrangements.
