SPRINGDALE, Ark.Horace Delbert Nichols, 82, Springdale, Ark., formerly of Iowa Falls, died from complications of Alzhemeiers, Sunday, April 28, 2002, at the Clarempore Veterans Center, Clarempore, Okla. Services will be held Thursday, May 2, at 2 p.m. at the LinnÕs Funeral Chapel in Iowa Falls, with burial to follow at Berlin, Jackson Township Cemetery, in Hardin County. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Thursday at the LinnÕs Funeral Home in Iowa Falls. Memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Home Missions, The First Baptist Bus Ministry, Springdale, The Northwest Arkansas Adult Day Care Center, P.O. Box 807, Springdale, or to ADRDA, Central Arkansas Chapter, P.O. Box 1326, Little Rock, AR, 72203.

Horace was born Jan. 20, 1920, at Alden, to Huber E. and Leila Robbins Nichols. He attended the Owasa Community Schools. On June 5, 1946, he married Velma O. Barnhart at the Cottage Church in Hardin County. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Springdale, and the American Legion. Horace was a veteran of W.W. II with the United States Army Air Corps as a fighter aircraft mechanic with photo reconnaissance, fighter, and heavy bomber groups in Africa, Sicily, Italy, Balkans and France. He was in the plumbing and heating business in Iowa Falls, operating Nichols Plumbing and Heating until 1973. Horace was a boiler operator-maintenance man at Scotts Paper in Rogers, Ark., until retirement.

Horace is survived by his wife, Velma, of Springdale; three sons, Tadd and his wife, Barbara, of Independence; Timothy and his wife, Marilyn, of Independence; Mark and his wife, Angie, of Fayetteville, Ark.; two daughters, Leila and her husband, Marvin Bower, of Bentonville, Ark., Mary and her husband, Jeff Quam, of Gentry, Ark.; one sister, Mary Catherine and her husband, Johnny Neubauer, of Alden; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
