HAMPTON-Gerhardt Herman Kragel, 86, of Hampton, died Friday, April 26, 2002, at Franklin General Hospital, Hampton. Services were Tuesday, April 30 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Latimer, with Rev. David Spleet officiating. Burial was at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Latimer.

Gerhardt was born May 15, 1915, in Franklin County to Fred and Wilhelmina Pralle Kragel. He received his education at St. Paul's Christian Day School in Latimer. On May 19, 1946, Gerhardt married Vendetta Ahrens in Latimer. He was a farmer and enjoyed traveling, fishing with his grandchildren, nature and the outdoors. He also enjoyed singing and cooking.

Survivors include his wife Vendetta, Hampton; three sons, Mark and wife, Twylah, of Clear Lake, Wade and wife, Jacki, of Waukee, Drew and wife, Mavis, of Blairsburg; two daughters, Mary and husband, Dick Mulkern, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and June and husband, Dale Blau, of Latimer; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; five sisters; and an infant son.
