From Jewell Record November 14, 1907 (page 9)

Carl Christensen. [sic]

Owing to a regrettable oversight, the Record neglected to publish the following obituary, which was brought in for publication last week, of Carl Christensen [sic], the young man whose recent tragic death is known and mourned by everyone in this vicinity.

Carl Christensen [sic] was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Feb 22, 1887, and died 4 1/2 miles north of Ellsworth, October 22, 1907, age being 20 years and eight months.

Carl moved with his parents to Hamilton county, Iowa, when but a small boy, and has lived in the vicinity of Jewell since, until the unexpected guest of death called him away. He united with the Christian church on June 17, 1906, and it can be truly said "He was faithful until death." Carl was "steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord." During his hours of pain and suffering he was patient, kind and loving. His abiding faith in Christ made him eager to meet his Redeemer." It seems had to understand why one so promising should be called upon to depart this life, yet when we behold the message from Christ we cannot help but say "For him to die is gain." The deceased leaves a father, mother, seven brothers and three sisters to mourn his departure, all of whom live in this country and were present at the funeral services. Had he lived until 21 years oaf age he would have been united in marriage to Miss Hattie Barkhuff. The father, mother, brothers, sisters, Miss Barkhuff and each relative many friends ho unite in extending profound sympathy in this their sad hour of bereavement. One sister, Anna, aged 8 years and 9 months preceded the deceased in death some three years ago.

The prayer of the writer is that we may all so live that when death shall overtake us, that we may say with the servant of old: "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith, hence there is a crown of righteousness awaiting me in Heaven," where we shall meet our loved ones never more to part.
Minister of Deceased.
