From Jewell Record August 22, 1907 (page 1)
William Templer was born in Schnectady county, New York, December 4, 1842, and died in Jewell, August 14, 1907, aged 64 years, 8 months and 10 days. His father died when he was about five years old, and in 1872 his mother passed away. In 1862 he came to Iowa, and never having married, he made his home with the family of his brother, Oliver S., until the time of his death. He had two brothers both of whom he survived, Oliver having passed away in 1905 and the other brother, D. D. C., in 1897. He removed from the farm to Jewell about eighteen months ago, still making his home with Mrs. O. S. Templer. For three years he had been in poor health, gradually failing until death came at last to relieve him from earthly pain.
Wm. Templer was born and reared in a Christian home and was baptized as a child. Although not, since locating in Iowa, connected in membership with any church, he held the greatest reverence for the Christian religion. He was patient and considerate in the sufferings of his sickness, and at the end passed away peacefully. He frequently spoke in kindly terms of his many friends and neighbors, all of whom feel in his demise the loss of a good and loyal friend.
Funeral services were conducted from the home Friday afternoon at two o'clock, Rev. G. O. Porter reading the scripture lesson and offering prayer, and Rev. W. C. Cole delivering the funeral address. Rev. Porter read the burial service at the cemetery. The organist and choir selected from the Congregational, Methodist and Christian choirs aided in the services, which were attended by a large number of friends and neighbors. The remains were interred in Evergreen cemetery at this place.
