Mrs. Sidney E. Foster Is Dead
After much painful suffering from sarcoma and tuberculosis of the glands, Mrs. Sidney E. Foster passed away Sunday afternoon, April 13th, at 6:45 o'clock, at the place one mile east of town where the family has resided temporarily. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30, from the M. E. church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. English, and the body was laid at rest in Evergreen cemetery.
Sarah C. Garvin, daughter of James and Elizabeth Garvin, was born March 17, 1862, near Havenville, Kan., where she resided until the death of her mother in 1880, after which date she resided with her uncle, Dr. Geo. Black, at Ellsworth. She was married Nov. 7, 1882, to Mr. Sidney E. Foster. To this union five children have been born, all sons and all surviving, the three eldest no being married. The sons are Melvin, now living in Jewell, M. Jerold, of Chillicothe, Mo., Ross, of Fort Dodge, Glen, of Jewell, and Hazen, the youngest, a boy of ten years who will accompany his father back to their home near Paxton, Neb.
Before her marriage deceased suffered from a cancerous wart on the right shoulder, which was removed. Tuberculosis of the glands developed 16 years ago but was held in check for years. A blood cancer developed on her right temple two years ago for which she was away from home seven months taking treatment of a specialist. A year ago last March sarcomal developed when she was taken to a hospital in Omaha where an operation gave but temporary relief. Everything possible was done and finally she was taken to a sanitarium at Kalamazoo, Mich., but to no avail. At her request, she was than brought to Jewell to spend her last days in the home of her youth. At the age of 16 she united with the Christian church and when she came to Iowa two years later joined the Methodist church. During all her life she has been a true and faithful Christian woman and passed away confident in the knowledge that she was leaving pain and suffering to go to a better life above.
