JOHN J. VOSS PASSES AWAY
John J. Voss was born in Germany October 20, 1829. He resided in his native country until at the age of twenty eight years when he was united in marriage to Miss Mina Miller and with his bride came to America in the year 1857. They settled on a farm near McGregor, Clayton county, Iowa, residing there until the year 1882, when they moved with their family to their present home north east of Jewell, where he passed away at one o'clock on the morning of February 3, 1911, at the ripe old age of 82 years, 3 months and 13 days. Death was due to lung troubles and infirmities of old age. He united with the German Lutheran church in McGregor, Iowa, and died realizing his life work was ended and went prepared to meet his Saviour. To Mr. and Mrs. John J. Voss were born ten children, five of whom have preceded the father to the great beyond. An aged wife, three sons and two daughters, Carl, Will and Elmer of Jewell, Mrs. Emma Planalp of Canby, Minnesota, and Mrs. Sophie Garvin of Stratford, are left to mourn his loss.
