Thursday, August 24, 2000Dorothy V. Furman, 81, Jewell, died Tuesday, August 22, 2000. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Community Church of Kamrar with Rev. Jamie Johnson to officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell. Friends may call Thursday from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Becker Funeral Home in Jewell. Memorials may be given to the Community Church of Kamrar.
Dorothy Virginia Obe, daughter of Joseph L. and Hazel Belle Bennison Obe. She was a 1938 graduate of Ellsworth High School. On Feb. 11, 1941 she married Lyle C. Furman in Hamilton County. They moved to California where her husband was employed with Lockheed Aircraft in Burbank and then to Kansas City where he worked for North American Aviation. They returned to Iowa and began farming northeast of Jewell for 7 years. Then they moved to a farm in southern Iowa where they lived for the next 35 years, raising two daughters on the farm near Allerton. Following her husband's death in 1985, she remained in Allerton for another year, then moved to Jewell. She was a member of the Community Church of Kamrar.
Survivors are two daughters, Pat Bickel Jones of Salida, Colo., and Kathy Pyner of Scottsdale, Ariz., two grandsons, Ron Bickel of Mercer, Mo., and Mike Bickel of Auxvasse, Mo., four great-grandsons, one brother, Don Obe, and a niece Paula Carroll, both of Jewell, and 14 other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Richard Leon Obe, and her husband.
