Tuesday, August 22, 2000Roger Noble Johnson, 84, Ames, died Sunday, August 20, 2000 at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Matfield Community Church in Matfield Green, Kan. Burial will be in the Matfield Green Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be left with the Croy Funeral Home in Cottonwood Falls, Kan., or the Becker Funeral Home in Jewell.
Roger Noble Johnson, son of Isaac LeRoy and Victoria (Rhodes) Johnson, was born Feb. 9, 1916 in Neoge, Ill. In 1920, the family moved to Williams, Iowa and 10 years later, moved to Webster City. On July 24, 1936 he married Catherine Canfield in Webster City. Roger had worked as a mechanic, electrician, painter, roofer and at factories. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Russellville, Ark. They retired in 1971, moving to Kansas. After his wife died, he lived with a number of his children before moving to Ames.
Survivors are his two sons, Roger A. Johnson, Fort Dodge, Noble L. Johnson, Iola, Kan.; six daughters, Pearl Jensen, Eagle Grove, Judy Blair, Ames, Karen K. Espe, El Dorado, Kan., Sharon Gorman, Augusta, Kan., Ramona DeVan, Ames and Mary VanBuskirk, Matfield Green, Kan.; 36 grandchildren, 83 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, twin sons, seven brothers, five sisters, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
