Carl A. "Tony" Gantenbein, 77, of Dubuque, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center-Dyersville, IA.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 16, 2017, at Rockdale United Methodist Church, in Dubuque, with Rev. Linda VonFumetti officiating. Family and friends may visit after 9 a.m. until the time of service Thursday, at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post #6. Leonard Funeral Home and Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, in Dubuque, is assisting the family.

Tony was born on November 15, 1939, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of John and Selma (Haar) Gantenbein.

He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School. He was proud to serve four years in the United States Air Force. Upon returning to Dubuque, he worked as a diesel mechanic for 38 years for Flynn Ready Mix.

He married Barbara Ann Waller on September 10, 1966.

Tony was a devout member of Rockdale United Methodist Church. He enjoyed spending time with Barb, driving his Corvette, working outside, restoring old tractors, collecting guns, watching the local weather forecastors and reading the Bible. His favorite thing to do was to share Jesus with others.

He is survived by his wife Barb; and three children, Brian (Linda) Gantenbein, Brenda (Randy) Jansen and Brent (Rachel) Gantenbein; four grandchildren, Gail, Nathan, Nicholas, Caden; and one sister, Jean Perkins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a twin sister, Carol; two brothers, Dave and John Jr.; and niece Becky.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Rockdale United Methodist Church.
