Douglas J. Beidler

KEY WEST, Iowa - Douglas J. Beidler, 51, of Key West, passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2014, after a long illness.

At Doug's request, there will be private services. Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1640 Main St., is in charge of arrangements.

Doug was born on Aug. 22, 1962, son of Robert C. Beidler.

He married Jodi L. Herbst on Oct. 11, 1985. He was the proud father of Staff Sgt. Robert J. Beidler, of the Air Force. His son, Rob, was his pride and joy.

Doug graduated from Wahlert High School. He was a member of Rockdale United Methodist Church and a retired member of the Key West Fire Department.

He was an outstanding welder, loved large equipment and known as a "jack-of-all-trades" who could fix or build anything. Doug had a heart of gold that was always willing to help others. He loved animals, children, old westerns and Dale Earnhardt Sr., No. 3.

In addition to his wife, Jodi, and son, Rob, he is survived by his mother and father-in-law, Don and Juanita Herbst; brother-in-law, Don (Pam) Herbst Jr. and family; sister-in-law, Karin (Mike) Friend and family, all of Dubuque. His closest friends who always supported and believed in him, Dave and Linda, Dave Jr. and Tammi Herbst, Kevin Schadl, Tony (Barb) Gantenbein, Jim (Cindy) Riedl, Tom (Kim) Reittinger, Kevin (Jennifer) Wernimont and Ray and Deb Nicks.

Doug is welcomed into heaven by his father and his dear friends, Ray "Whitey" Mueller, Doug Tabor, Mike Hefel and his beloved dog, "Tuff."

In lieu of flowers, all memorials may be given to Rockdale United Methodist Church, 1500 Old Mill Road, Dubuque, IA 52003.
