PLACID, Iowa - Monica I. (Urbain) O'Brien, 68, of Oswego, Ill., formerly of Placid, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006, at home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anne's Catholic Church, Oswego, with the Rev. Dan Stempora officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Placid. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at St. Anne's Catholic Church. Friends also may call from 8 to 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Catholic Church, where there will be a prayer service at 11 a.m. The McKeown-Dunn Funeral Home, Ltd., Oswego, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. O'Brien worked in a clerical position within the insurance industry before retiring in 1999.

She was born on Oct. 2, 1937, in Dubuque County, daughter of the late Joseph Q. and Irene A. (Casey) Urbain. She married Joseph A. O'Brien on June 27, 1959, in Epworth.

She was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church, serving in many capacities within the church.

Surviving are her husband, Joseph A.; four children, Shawn (Liz) O'Brien, of Aurora, Ill., Dennis O'Brien, of Wallace, Ind., Sharon (Rick) Davis, of Palatine, Ill., and Diane (Jeff) Brooks, of Missoula, Mont.; five grandchildren, Sarah and Patrick O'Brien, Erin and Matt Davis, and Ellen Brooks; six sisters; a brother; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister.
