DYERSVILLE, Iowa - Marie F. Thier, 90, of Dyersville, passed peacefully from this earth Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013, at Oak Crest Manor in Dyersville.

Services were held at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville. Burial was in the church cemetery. Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, was in charge of arrangements.

Marie was born on Oct. 29, 1922, in Meyer, daughter of John and Theresa (Stelken) Fruth. She married James B. Thier on Feb. 6, 1945, in Colesburg. Together they farmed and raised a large family near Dyersville until 1979, when they retired. He preceded her in death.

After lovingly fulfilling her role as wife and mother, Marie became an active member of the Dyersville community, having served on the hospital auxiliary. She was a volunteer at Oak Crest Manor, a member of the Dyersville Area Historical Society, a volunteer at Dyer-Botsford House and was a member of Friends of the Library. The opportunity to serve and meet and work with so many different people further enriched her life.

Surviving are her children, Marjorie (Jack) Murray, of Peoria, Ill., Rose Ann (Dennis) Gassmann, of Dubuque, Paul (Jane) Thier, of Dyersville, Mary Germaine Parra, of Vienna, Va., Tim (Lynn) Thier, of Trego, Mont., Loras (Wendy) Thier, of Bayfield, Wis., Wayne (Elaine) Thier, of Farley, Lynne (partner, Renee Vandemore) Thier, of Duluth, Minn., Ed Thier, of Moorhead, Minn., and Jennifer (Ed) Suarez, of Golden Valley, Minn.; a son-in-law, Jay Norman, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 23 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; a sister, Helen Hogan, of Luxemburg; and two sisters-in-law, Kay Thier and Delores Thier, both of Dyersville.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Glenda Norman; a grandson, Brad Thier; two sisters, Gertrude Fruth, in infancy, and Rosella "Sally" Pasker; a brother, Anthony Fruth; many brothers and sisters-in-law.
