Cletus Winter, 82, of 821 Davis Ave., Dubuque, formerly of Bankston, Iowa, died Saturday evening, Nov. 27, 2004, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Clement's Catholic Church, Bankston. Burial will be in St. Clement's Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the Tri-State Vietnam Veterans and the Marine Corps League. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Hoffmann Schneider and Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road, Dubuque.
Mr. Winter worked for the Dubuque County Highway Department, retiring in 1984.
He was born on Oct. 4, 1922, in Bankston, son of Peter and Irene (Potts) Winter. He married Mary Ann Stoffel on Oct. 3, 1950, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Rickardsville, Iowa.
He was a veteran of World War II with the Army Air Corps and served in India.
He was a member of St. Clement's Parish, Bankston, and its Holy Name Society. He also was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, of New Vienna, Iowa.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann Winter, of Dubuque; four sons, Del (Kathy) Winter, of Madison, Wis., Duane (Barb) Winter, of Peosta, Iowa, and Steve (Lois) Winter and Darrell (Melissa) Winter, both of Marion, Iowa; two daughters, Sharon (Michael) Tillar, of Richmond, Va., and Debbie (Philip) McMorran, of Marion; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a brother, Sylvester "Butch" Winter, of Dubuque; and a sister, Norma Jean Winter Smith, of Dubuque.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Cecelia Winter.
