OLD CITIZEN GONE

James Moran Died at Cedar Rapids Last Thursday

James Moran who for many years was a resident of Jones county and Cascade, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Katherine Kiburz in Cedar Rapids, Thursday, August 24th. The remains were brought to Cascade for burial last Saturday morning and the funeral services took place at St. Martin’s church, Rev. L. Roche officiating.

James Moran was born in county Limerick, Ireland in 1818, and was therefore in his 96th year. Mr. Moran came to New York state in early manhood. At Buffalo in 1850 he was married to Mary Madden and six years later came to Jones county, Iowa, settling in Clay township, and engaged in farming. In 1890 he came to Cascade. On Sept 30, 1910, his wife died. His daughter, Mrs. Lamey, kept house for him for some years when she removed west, and Mr. Moran took up residence in Monticello with another daughter, Mrs. Katherine Kiburz, and a few years ago removed with her to Cedar Rapids, where death came to him.

Mr. Moran enjoyed a wide circle of friends and bore his burden of years lightly until recently. He was a devout Catholic and was fully prepared for the eternal reward of those who have kept the faith.

Mr. Moran is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Peter Larson and Eliza Stewart of Paris France; Mrs. P. Welch, Mrs. R. B. Porter, Mrs. Ella Lamey, of Spokane; Mrs. Katherine Kiburz of Cedar Rapids; and two sons, John Moran of Vancouver, Canada, and Thomas Moran of Clay township, Jones county. Mr. Moran’s eldest daughter is the widow of the late Peter Larson, the Montana millionaire, and three other daughters, Mesdames Steward, Welch and Porter are the wives of wealthy railroad contractors and capitalists.

Those who came with the remains from Cedar Rapids were Mrs. Kiburz and sons, James and Leo Kiburz, Mr. and Mrs. James Dempsey, Miss Katherine Hogan, and Thomas Moran and wife.
