Death of Mrs. James Moran

After an illness of several weeks, Mrs. James Moran died at the family residence in West Cascade at 8:15 o’clock Sunday morning. She had reach an advanced age, being fully 82 years old, but having been of unusual vitality her declining illness came in the nature of a surprise to her family and friends. For several days previous to her death she continued, in a precarious condition, but maintained her grasp on life and giving some hope of recovery. Her children, all living at a distance, were summoned to her bedside. She lingered until Sunday morning when she passed, peacefully to eternal rest.

Her maiden name was Mary Madden and she was born in county Tipperary, Ireland, in 1819, and came to America in 1847. At Buffalo, N.Y. in 1850 she was married to James Moran and in the year 1856 came to Iowa, locating in Jones county, where they resided until eleven years ago when they came to Cascade.

Her husband, James Moran, and eight children, six daughters and two sons, survive her and mourn the loss of a faithful wife and loving, mother. The children are Mrs. Lamey, Mrs. M. Larson, Mrs. Larson, and Mrs. S. Welch, all of Helena, Montana; Mrs. E. Stuart of Spokane Falls, Wash.; Mrs. K. Kiburtz of Monticello, Iowa; John Moran of Hasting, Neb.; Thomas Moran of Clay township, Jones county.

Mrs. Moran was a devout Christian woman, a consistent Catholic and a devoted member of St. Martin’s congregation. She was beloved by her family and highly regarded by all who knew her. Her death is sincerely mourned by the entire community.

The funeral services were held Tuesday morning at St. Martin’s church at 9 o’clock, when Requiem High Mass was celebrated in which ceremony Rev. L. Roche, pastor, was celebrant, Rev. J. J. Brogan of Placid deacon, Rev. Slattery of Farley sub-deacon and Rev. Kelly of Garry Owen master of ceremonies. Rev. L. Roche pronounced a warm eulogy upon the life and character of the deceased and the obsequies were very largely attended by old friends and neighbors both from Cascade and abroad.
