PEOSTA, Iowa - Raphael "Ralph" Reiss, 82, of Peosta, passed away Sunday, June 29, 2014.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 7, at Holy Family Catholic Church, New Melleray, rural Peosta, with Monsignor Richard Funke officiating. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery, New Melleray, where military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post 6.

Friends may greet the family from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 6, at Hoffmann-Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3860 Asbury Road, where there will be a prayer service at 2 p.m.

Ralph was born on Nov. 19, 1931 to Reinhart and Theresa (Schuster) Reiss in Dubuque. Ralph was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Korean War. He was a lifelong farmer and also worked for the USDA as a meat inspector and for the FHA as a housing inspector. He was an avid traveler, visiting Australia this past March.

Ralph enjoyed being outdoors and was a proud grandfather. He also liked to dance and was a fun-loving man who loved joking around.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children, David (Pam) Reiss, of Peosta, Catherine Caitlin, of Perth, Australia, Caroline Reiss, of Cedar Rapids, Julie Garrels, of Indiana, and Linda (Graham Mullins) Reiss, of Perth, Australia; three grandchildren, Melanie Mirville, Gaven Reiss and Rebecca Mullins; his sister-in-law, Jo Ann Reiss; brother-in-law, Richard Benson; and his former wife and mother of his children, MaryAnn Winter.

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, Carl Reiss, Martin Reiss, Marie Benson and Robert Reiss. Memorials may be made to the Ralph Reiss Memorial Fund. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.hoffmannschneiderfuneral homes.com.
