MAQUOKETA, Iowa - Elizabeth U. "Liz" Laughlin, 90, of Maquoketa, died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, at Jackson County Public Hospital, Maquoketa.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Maquoketa, with burial in Assumption Catholic Cemetery, Sylvia Switch, rural Zwingle. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Haylock-O'Hara & Lahey Funeral Home, Maquoketa, where there will be a rosary at 7 p.m.

She was born on May 20, 1911, in Sugar Creek, daughter of Louis and Mary (Zeiser) Franzen. She married William J. Laughlin Sr., on Aug. 19, 1930, in Sylvia Switch; he died on Aug. 21, 1984.

She farmed with her husband, retiring in 1971.

Surviving are four daughters, Betty (Oliver) Mesch, of Hazel Green, Wis., Geraldine (LeRoy) Ehlers, of Andrew, Elaine (Gerald) Ehlers, of Anamosa, and Arletta (Eugene) McCloy, of Miles; a daughter-in-law, Jane Laughlin, of Wyoming; a sister-in-law, Irene Franzen, of Clinton; 28 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
