SHERRILL, Iowa - Francis J. Kutsch, 71, of 14002 Sherrill Road, Sherrill, died at 7:20 p.m. Sunday, April 23, 2000, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Sherrill. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Dubuque, where there will be a flag presentation by American Legion Post 6 of Dubuque. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, where there will be a wake service at 3:30 p.m.

Mr. Kutsch worked at John Deere Dubuque Works, retiring in 1991. He also farmed in the Sherrill area throughout his entire life.

He was born on March 24, 1929, in Dubuque, son of Clem and Clara (Neises) Kutsch. He married Delila Duehr on Sept. 21, 1954, at St. Francis Church, Balltown.

He served in the Army during the Korean conflict. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman and also enjoyed playing cards and gardening. He was a member of United Automobile Workers Local 94 and a member of the National Rifle Association. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Surviving are his wife, Delila, of Sherrill; seven children, Steven H. (Cindy Rowles) Kutsch, and Delbert W. "Bert" Kutsch, both of Sherrill, Connie S. Klein Kutsch, of Dubuque, Jerome B. (Sharon Koltes) Kutsch, of Sherrill, Jeffery C. Kutsch, Gregory H. (Sheree Dalbkermeyer) Kutsch, and Vincent J. (Christina "Tina" McDonald) Kutsch, all of Dubuque; 12 grandchildren, Andrew, Matthew, Stephanie and Brian Kutsch, Tracy and Kellie Klein, Jason and Melissa Kutsch, Nathan, Nicole and Michael Kutsch, and Lacey Kutsch; four brothers, Harold (Vivian) Kutsch, Walter (Marie) Kutsch and Richard Kutsch, all of Dubuque, and Bernard "Red" (Adeline) Kutsch, of St. Donatus; and two sisters, Bernice (Justin) Niensteadt and Clara (Henry "Hank") Kubitz, both of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Mark and John Kutsch; and his parents, Clem and Clara (Neises) Kutsch.

A Francis J. Kutsch Memorial Fund has been established.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Blyton and the staff at Wendt Regional Cancer Center and the oncology staff at The Finley Hospital.
