George I. Johnson, 84, of Dubuque Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, formerly of 642 University Ave., and Zwingle, Iowa, died at 6:05 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, 1999, at the nursing home.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Siegert-Didesch Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., with burial in Assumption Catholic Church Cemetery, Sylvia Switch, rural Zwingle. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mr. Johnson did small engine repair and in his youth was a farmer.

He was born on Oct. 2, 1914, in Jackson County, Iowa, son of John W. and Sara (Edwards) Johnson.

He enjoyed activities at the nursing home.

Surviving are a brother-in-law, Bill McCarthy, of Dubuque; three sisters-in-law, Edith Johnson, of Maquoketa, Iowa, Margaret Johnson, of Durango, Iowa, and Jenny Johnson, of Maquoketa; and 32 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers and four sisters.

George's family would like to thank the staff at Dubuque Nursing and Rehab, Dr. Charles Longo, and the staff at Dubuque Internal Medicine for the wonderful care he has received these last few years.
