Mrs. Benjamin R. (Margaret B. "Margie") Atchison, 72, of 2662 Jackson St., died at 2 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16, 2001, at home following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens, south of Dubuque. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a parish wake service at 4 p.m.

She was born on Jan. 10, 1929, in North Buena Vista, Iowa, daughter of Raymond and Frances (Dean) Wolter. She married Benjamin R. Atchison on Feb. 3, 1948, in Dubuque; he died on Oct. 8, 2001.

She was a full-time wife, mother and homemaker. Margie was a member of St. Mary's Parish. She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed fishing and traveling.

Surviving are two daughters, Debra L. (Louis) LuGrain and Gayle L. Atchison, both of Dubuque; five sons, Allen J. Atchison, Wesley R. "Ray" (Wanda) Atchison, George F. (Jenny) Atchison and John P. Atchison, all of Dubuque, and Ben M. "Dude" Atchison, of Fort Dodge, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Clara (John) McLaughlin, of Dubuque.

A Margaret "Margie" Atchison Memorial Fund has been established.

The family wishes to express a special thank-you to the nurses and staff of Hospice for their care and concern for both Ben and Margie.
