SET AUTOPSY IN WOMAN'S DEATH

An autopsy was to be performed to determine the cause of death of Zella May Sumstine, 44, wife of Charles Sumstine, who was found dead about 7:45 a.m. Monday morning (21 Oct 1957) at 411 1/2 Valley.

It was reported that Mrs. Sumstine had stopped in at a friend's apartment at that address last night. She complained about her legs hurting. She was having difficulty walking, it was reported. Her friend advised her to lie on a couch to rest and relax.

She talked to her friend about 7:15 a.m. Monday but was unable to answer a short time later. The police were called from the station, just across the street. They summoned Coroner David Wallen, who pronounced her dead.

Wallen said it was reported that Mrs. Sumstine had the flu last week. She had been living with a sister at 312 1/2 Jefferson.

Mrs. Sumstine was born in Des Moines county June 16, 1913, the daughter of Charles and Mamie Macartey (McCarty) Dietsch. She married Charles Sumstine in Kahoka, Mo., Sept. 27, 1940. She was of the Methodist faith.

Surviving are her husband; her mother, Mrs. William Karger; two step-daughters, Dorothy May Goldsworth, Boone, and Mary Joyce Peterson, Wilmington, Calif.; three sisters, Mrs. Ben Wagler, and Mrs. Robert Miller, both of Burlington, Mrs. Elsie Crowder, Los Angeles.

The body is at Wallen's chapel.
