DYERSVILLE, Iowa - Erwin G. Steffen, 63, of 314 Sixth Ave. NE, Dyersville, died at 2:25 a.m. Monday, Aug. 12, 2013, at his home in Dyersville, surrounded by his family.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 16, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with the Rev. Dennis Quint officiating. Burial will be held in St. Francis Cemetery in Dyersville. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home in Dyersville, where a wake service will be held at 2:30 p.m.

Erwin was born on July 19, 1950, in independence, son of Reynold and Frances (Riniker) Steffen.

He received his education in the Ryan and Maquoketa Valley Schools. On Aug. 24, 1974, he was united in marriage to Dianne at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville.

He was employed at John Deere Dubuque Works and farmed for 20 years. He then worked for Crop Production Services for the last 15 years.

Ervin was a member of St. Francis Xavier Parish in Dyersville and Dyersville Knights of Columbus-Council 1734.

Surviving are his wife, Dianne Steffen, of Dyersville; four daughters, Stephanie Steffen and Nichole Steffen, both of Dyersville, Melissa (Jeff) Kremer, of Worthington, and Amanda Steffen (fiance, Terry Willenborg) of Dubuque; four grandchildren, Thomas, Brittany, Jonathon and Wyatt; sisters and brothers, Carolyn (Clem) Ryan, of Swisher, Patricia Ann Strait, of Preston, Vernon (Christine) Steffen, of Racine, Wis., David (Connie) Steffen, of Garber, Madonna (Donald) Scherbring and Joyce (Robert) Hillers, both of Guttenberg, Irene Deppe, of Jordon, Minn., Doris (Mark) Vaske, of Durango, Lynn (Joseph) Hermsen, of Farley, Merlin (Nancy) Steffen, of Hudson, Wis., Dale Steffen, of Sabula, and Joseph Steffen, of Charlotte.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Viola Steffen; and a brother-in-law, Ronnie Strait.
