DYERSVILLE, Iowa - Lloyd F. Goerdt, 70, of Dyersville, died after a brief illness Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 137 and the Edward W. Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7736. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish scripture service at 4 p.m., and an American Legion Post 137 and Edward W. Lake VFW Post 7736 service at 7 p.m.

He was born on Oct. 20, 1929, in rural Dyersville, son of William Bernard and Emma Bernadette (Woerdehoff) Goerdt.

He married Donna M. Pins on Sept. 17, 1953, in Bankston. They farmed northwest of Dyersville for 15 years and moved to town in 1968. Mr. Goerdt was a truck driver, retiring in 1995.

He was a Korean War veteran, having proudly served his country with the 2nd Infantry Division. He was wounded in action and awarded the Purple Heart. He was a past commander of the VFW Post 7736 in New Vienna, and the American Legion Post 137 of Dyersville. He was a member of the All State Team of past commanders from 1984-85, 1985-86 and 1996-97. He coached youth baseball on several levels for many years and enjoyed watching the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Donna; nine sons, Dick (Janie) Goerdt, of Mason City, Ron (Bev) Goerdt, of Peosta, Randy (Sandy) Goerdt, of Algonquin, Ill., Mike (Darla) Goerdt, of Dyersville, Billy Goerdt (and his friend, Janis Ehlinger), of Austin, Texas, Kevin (Annette) Goerdt, of Dyersville, Jim (Shanan) Goerdt, of Pittsburgh, Tom (Peggy) Goerdt, of Asbury, and Rob (Erin) Goerdt, of Hiawatha; a daughter, Sandi (Bill) Maiers, of Cedar Falls; 15 grandchildren; a sister, Lois Pins; and a brother, Neil Goerdt.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother-in-law, Tony Pins.
