Memorial services were held at 10:30 a.m. September 13, 2012 at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home & Crematory in Manchester, Iowa, for Vera M. Cole, 80, of Manchester, Iowa, who died on Monday, September 10, 2012, at the Regional Medical Center in Manchester. Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. September 12, 2012 at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home, Manchester, with interment September 13, 2012 at Greenwood Cemetery, Masonville, Iowa.

Vera M. Cole was born on May 27, 1932, in Delhi, the daughter of Kenneth and Ethel (Thomas) Nelson. Vera was raised and educated in the area, and graduated from Manchester High School in 1949.

On April 15, 1950, Vera was united in marriage to Harvey L. Cole in West Union. Together they resided in Manchester. Vera drove school bus for over 22 years, until her retirement in 1993.

Vera loved her family, her dog, Tessa, and enjoyed crocheting, bingo and gambling.

Survivors include her 4 children, Daryl (friend Val) Cole of Hopkinton, Delpha (Jamie) Ostrander of Manchester, Allen “Porkchop” (Fiorella) Cole of Turner Valley, Alberta, Canada, and Arlyn Cole of Manchester; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 3 siblings, Ronald (Ervine) Nelson of Portland, Oregon, Doug (Jerri) Nelson of Charles City, and Janet Cords of Delhi.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harvey L. Cole, on December 31, 2001; one granddaughter, Sheila Cole in 1972; and a sister, Bertha Cornwell.
