Orville Fred Rossow

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. September 6, 2012 at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home & Crematory in Manchester, Iowa for Orville Fred Rossow, 97, of Manchester, who died Sunday, September 2, 2012, at Regional Medical Center in Manchester. Visitation was held from 4 to 7 p.m. September 5, 2012 at Leonard Muller Funeral Home & Crematory in Manchester and one hour before service time on Thursday. Interment was September 6, 2012 at Oakland Cemetery, Manchester.

Orville Fred Rossow was born near Manchester on January 6, 1915, to Fred and Olive (Stone) Rossow. His mother died when he was ten years old and Orville made his home with his sister, Elsie. Orville graduated from Waterloo West High School with the Class of 1933. During the 1932-1933 school year, he was State Runner-up at the Drake Relays in tennis.

On March 8, 1938, Orville was united in marriage to Martha Lyman. Five children were born to this union. The couple farmed near Coffins Grove for a time until they purchased their farm near Masonville. In 1984, they retired and made their home in Manchester. Martha died in 1994 and Orville stayed until moving to the Meadows in 2004. His family was his pride and joy. His hobbies included listening to country and western music, photography and riding his bicycle which he was able to do until recently.

Survivors include his children, Barbara (Norman) Starr of Glidden, Robert (Martha) Rossow of Hampshire, IL, Nora Becker of Cedar Rapids, Kathryn (John) Bowman of Bettendorf and Fred (Karla) Rossow of Cedar Rapids; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and one brother, Virgil (Carmen) Rossow of St. Charles, MN.

Orville was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his brother Howard Rossow and 3 sisters, Elsie Lawrence, Gladys Evans and Ruth Billhorn.
