Memorial services were held at 11:30 a.m., August 25, 2012 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Manchester, Iowa, with visitation being held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., August 25, 2012 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Manchester.

Jerry Lee Rattenborg, 70, of Manchester, Iowa, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at the Regional Medical Center in Manchester.

He was born on June 14, 1942, in Atlantic, Iowa, the son of Harry Andreas and Martha Marie (Niles) Rattenborg. Jerry was raised and educated in the Atlantic area and was a 1960 Atlantic High School graduate. He also was an engineering student graduating in 1965 from the University of Iowa.

Jerry was a dedicated employee for the State of Iowa, Department of Natural Resources for 35 years. He worked and lived in Fort Dodge, Jefferson, and became a DNR Regional Supervisor and moved to Manchester in 1973. After retiring from the DNR, Jerry worked for IIW, in Dubuque, as a consultant and marketing person.

He was united in marriage to Mary Gloria Ramirez on February 24, 1968. Jerry also served in the Army Reserve from 1967 to 1971.

Jerry was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Manchester and taught Sunday School, Adult Bible Class, and served as Executive Director of the congregation and several other boards through the years. He especially enjoyed fishing, hunting, auto mechanics, and woodworking. Jerry volunteered at West Delaware, did other community service and was a commissioner on the Delaware County Soil and Water Conservation District.

Family was very important to Jerry. He is survived by his wife Gloria of Manchester; 3 children, Patrick (Dawn) Rattenborg of Garretson, South Dakota, Randall (Stephanie) Rattenborg of Manchester, and Marla (Mike) Loecke of Ryan; 6 grandchildren, Tye Ferguson, Marc and Matthew Rattenborg, Raub and Shae Loecke, and Willa Rattenborg; two step-grandchildren, Isabelle and Owen Breitfelder; 3 siblings, JoAnn (Don) Jorgenson of Anita, William (Christine) Rattenborg of Fort Collins, Colorado, and Mary (Duane) Burk of Austin, Texas; and many nephews and nieces and their families.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

At Jerry’s request, his body was donated to the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at the University of Iowa.
