Richard "Dick" Sutton

Memorial services were held at 10:30 a.m. August 18, 2012 at First Lutheran Church in Manchester, Iowa for Richard “Dick” Sutton, 96, of Strawberry Point, formerly of Manchester and Delhi, who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 1, 2012, at his home in the Gernand Retirement Village in Strawberry Point. Visitation was held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. August 18, 2012 at First Lutheran Church, Manchester.

Richard “Dick” Sutton was born on a farm near Delaware, the son of Charles and Charlotte (Rich) Sutton on March 30, 1916. He was raised in the Delhi area, and attended Delaware School. He was a 1933 graduate of Delhi High School.
Dick was united in marriage to Winona Keith on June 10, 1942. Together they farmed near Delhi. Winona passed away from cancer in 1980.

In 1983, Dick married Betty (Keith) Glew. His passion was farming and he loved his pigs and cattle. They moved to the Gernand Retirement Village in 2002. They enjoyed spending the winters in Edinburg, Texas, for 20 years.

Dick has been a member of First Lutheran Church in Manchester for the past 29 years. Prior to that, he was a member of the Methodist Church in Delhi. Dick enjoyed playing sports as well as watching the Cubs, if they were winning. He also enjoyed following the markets, square dancing, and playing cards. Dick received an Award from Governor Branstad for 40 years of taking the residents of the Delaware County Home out for pizza. He also was a supporter of Dollars for Scholars at Maquoketa Valley High School.

Survivors include his wife, Betty of Strawberry Point; stepchildren, Vicki (John) Zietlow of Manchester, Dennis (Melanie) Glew of Bettendorf, Danny (Cathy) Glew of Manchester; 8 step-grandchildren; 8 step-great-grandchildren; 2 nephews, Verle (Donna) Hankins of Manchester and Joe Keith of Delhi; and one niece, Marlys (Jim) Rees of Delhi.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Winona; a twin infant brother; one sister, Leola (Sutton) Hankins; and one brother-in-law, Leonard Hankins.

At Dick's request his body was donated to the University of Iowa Department of Anatomy.
