Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. August 1, 2012 at First Lutheran Church, Manchester, Iowa, for Marvin E. Hawker, 93, of Manchester, Iowa, who died on Sunday, July 29, 2012, at the Strawberry Point Lutheran Home. Visitation was from 3 to 7 p.m. July 31, 2012 at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home & Crematory in Manchester, Iowa, with friends being able to call one hour before services at the church on Wednesday. Interment was August 1, 2012 at Oakland Cemetery, Manchester, Iowa.

Marvin E. Hawker was born on July 18, 1919, the son of Paul and Clara (Heiserman) Hawker. Marvin was raised and educated in the Ryan/Buck Creek area.

On October 21, 1941, Marvin was united in marriage to Joyce Morehouse in Kahoka, Missouri. Together they farmed near Earlville, until he was drafted and served honorably in the United States Army during World War II. After his return from the army they resided in Earlville for a short time, then moved to Manchester. Marvin built, owned, and operated the Marjo Motel in Earlville from 1968 to 1978. He also constructed over 200 homes in the Manchester area.

Joyce died in 1992 and Marvin continued living in Manchester.

Marvin enjoyed fishing and playing cards. He was a long-time, active member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Earlville.

Survivors include his 4 children, Judy (Edward) Fowlkes of Independence, Sandra (Al) Holstad of Gilbert, Arizona, Lee (Merri Chris) Hawker of Oskaloosa, and Mark (Jodi) Hawker of Manchester; 10 grandchildren: Lori, Janet, Diane, Tracy, Todd, Jenni, Tim, Sheri, Johna, and Joann; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Clara Hawker; his wife, Joyce; and a brother, Harold.
