Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on July 20, 2012 at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Manchester, Iowa for Dale George Bessey, 88, of Manchester, who died Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at the Lutheran Home in Strawberry Point. Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. July 19, 2012 at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home, Manchester, and one hour before services on Friday, with interment on July 20, 2012 at Oakland Cemetery, Manchester.

Dale George Bessey was born May 5, 1924, in Manchester, Iowa to George and Grace (Fischer) Bessey. Dale graduated from Manchester High School.

Dale served in the United States Navy during WW II, from November 12, 1942, until he was honorably discharged on June 22, 1944, as a Gunner’s Mate 3rd Class.

Dale was united in marriage to Thelma Sickles on August 13, 1945. He farmed for 26 years, and was also a body repairman at Stimson Motors. He was a 32 year member of Manchester American Legion Post #45. Dale was an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma of Manchester; his children, Nanci (Jerry) Klein of Manchester, Randy (Dolly) Bessey of Manchester, Becky (Robert) Walsh of Winthrop, Tracy (Linda) Bessey of Manchester and Kurt Bessey of Manchester; 6 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Ilean (Frank) Evers of Florida.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents; a great granddaughter Drue; brothers, Edwin, Roy, Hugh and infant Harry Bessey; brothers-in-law, Mike Duggan, Herbert Sickels, Floyd Sickels, Donald Sickels; and sister-in-law, Opal Duggan.
