Funeral Services for Mrs. Jennie Danford

Delhi; Dec. 27, 1934-Funeral services for Mrs. Jennie Danford, a resident of Delhi for many years, were held at the Methodist church on Thursday afternoon and were in charge of Rev. B. A. Wendlandt, the pastor. Vocal numbers were rendered by Messrs. J. D. Irmscher, H. L. Irmscher, H. L. Stone and R. Lanning, with Mrs E. J. Wintenburg accompanying on the piano. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery at Delhi. Casket bearers were Roy Stone, R.C. White, Paul Oehler, Fred Bartsche, M. G. Albrook and J. W. Rimmer.
Jennie Phillips, fourth daughter of James and Nancy Dalrymple Phillips, was born on August 8, 1864, in the Stony Point neighborhood east of Delhi. Her early life was spent on the farm. She attended the rural school and later the high school at Delhi, of which she was an alumnus. She also attended Lenox college at Hopkinton.
After teaching for ten years in rural schools of Iowa, North Dakota, and Oregon she was united in marriage with Almon Danford in 1899. To this union were born two daughters, one of whom, Dorothy, survives her mother. For the past twenty-five years Mrs. Danford had made her home in Delhi. Although in failing health for over a year, friends were unaware of the seriousness of her condition until Monday, December 17th. She passed away at her home early Tuesday morning, December 18, 1934. Mrs Danford leaves to mourn her passing her daughter, Mrs. Howard Hinman, who has been with her mother for several weeks, five grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. Ermina Dunlap, of Hopkinton; and Mrs. Esther Logan and Mrs. Nellie Hart, both of California. Another sister, Mrs. Swan Moline, of Waterloo, preceded her in death several years ago. Mrs. Danford was always interested in the welfare of the community. Until her health failed she attended church and Sunday school and maintained a constant interest in the public school. She was kindly and helpful in her attitude toward others, wishing to help whenever possible. Her days even this past fall, have been filled with plans for the pleasure and comfort of the grandchildren, who were coming to spend the winter with her. Through the long days of her failing health neighbors always found her cheerful and uncomplaining, thoughtful of others, and so unwilling to be a burden to those around her, To the daughter and other relatives is extended the sincere sympathy of many friends and neighbors.
