Services held for Ray Reed
Ray M. Reed, 63, of Hopkinton, died Tuesday afternoon, June 21, at St. Luke's hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a sudden illness.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Luke's Catholic church, Hopkinton, with burial in the Hopkinton cemetery. The Rev. Wilfred Johannes officiated. Military honors were by the Hopkinton American Legion.
Ray Merritt Reed was born Dec. 19, 1919 at Hopkinton, the son of Clifford T. and Addie (Haigh) Reed. He received his early education in the Buck Creek schools, graduating in 1937. He interrupted his college education at Lenox college, Hopkinton, when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the start of World War II. He served in the Navy as an electrician's mate first class until Sept. 7, 1945.
Ray Reed and Albina C. Fasano were married Dec. 26, 1942 in Bristol, R.I. The couple made their home in Bristol, where Ray was employed by Brown university for 27 years. Albina Reed die Jan, 13, 1973 in Bristol.
On June 1, 1974 Ray M. Reed and Grace (Smith) Burdick were married at St. Pius Catholic church, Cedar Rapids. The couple made their home in Bristol, R.I. until Ray's retirement in January 1982. They then returned to the Hopkinton community to live.
Surviving are his wife; five children, Ray Reed Jr. of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Daniel (Donna) Brownrigg of Lapeer, Mich., Mrs. Brian (Adelma) Martin of Riverside, R.I., Mrs. Jerry (Lorna) Jean of Tiverton, R.I., and Arthur Reed of Denver, Colo.; two step sons, James Burdick of Delhi, and Robert Burdick of Brunswick, Maine; 12 grandchildren; seven step grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Dean (Maoela) Brown of Palos Verdes, Calif.
