Mrs. Ida Franks
Edgewood: Mrs. Ida Bell Franks, former resident of the Edgewood area, passed away Saturday, Nov. 4, in Mercy hospital in Oelwein.
Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 6, at the Lutheran church in Elkport, with the Rev. Mick Millen officiating. Interment was made in Mt. Harmony cemetery. The Appleton funeral home was in charge of arrangements.
Ida Bell, daughter of Mary and Samuel Smith was born Oct, 5, 1895, near Garber. She attended rural schools of Clayton county. She was married July 2, 1913, to Charles Henry Groth and he died in 1920. She was married to Amos Franks Dec. 7, 1927 at Elkader. The family spent most of their life farming in the Clayton County area. In 1968 she moved to Oelwein to make her home with a son.
Mrs. Franks is survived by four sons, Alfred Groth of Woodbridge, Ill., Virgil Groth of Artesia, Calif., and Richard and Owen Franks, both of Oelwein; eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs Hattie Hansel of Colesburg and Mrs. Walter (Margaret) Ortman of Charles City and five brothers, Huston Smith of Oelwein, Ernest Smith of Guttenburg, George Smith of Santa Rosa, Calif., John Smith of Gateway, Colo., and Wayne Smith of Edgewood.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands, one daughter, two sisters and one brother.
