Rites Friday For Frank Matthews, Retired Farmer
Frank A. Matthews, 69, retired farmer of Greeley and a lifelong resident of the Greeley community, passed away Tuesday morning at his home.
Funeral services for Mr. Matthews will be held at the Shelly funeral home in Manchester at 1:30 p.m. Friday, with the Rev. Justin Kress officiating. Interment will be made in the family lot in St. Joseph's cemetery at Greeley.
Frank Andrew, son of Frank and Mary Lewis Matthews, was born Sept. 5, 1903, on the parental farm east of Greeley. He grew to young manhood on the farm and received his education in the Greeley schools and graduated from the Greeley high school with the class of 1922.
Following his graduation he attended Iowa State Teachers college at Cedar Falls for a time. He then returned to the Greeley area and engaged in farming.
He was united in marriage with Ethel Claire Roland on Sept. 6, 1930, at Waukon. They farmed in the Greeley area until 1964 when they retired and moved to Greeley.
Mr. Matthews is survived by his wife; one brother, Lewis Matthews of Greeley; two sisters, Mrs. Lyle (Donna) Parkin of Earlville, and Mrs. Wilbert (Marjorie) Stoeffler of Albuquerque, N.M., and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and by two brothers, Harold and Merle.
