Mary McElliott Dies at Marion
Was Housekeeper for Brother, Father T.J. McElliott, for Several Years.
Miss Mary McElliott, well known Ryan citizen, died at the home of her brother, Rev. T. J. McElliott, at Marion on Thursday, Dec. 30, 1937, after an illness of four weeks. Funeral services were held at St. Patrick's Catholic church at Ryan Monday morning. Msgr. Molloy of Cedar Rapids, former pastor of the Ryan church, having charge of the services. A solemn requiem mass was sung in the church Monday morning, the Rev. T.J. McElliott, Marion, acting as celebrant, assisted by Rev. P.J. Behan, Anamosa, deacon; Rev. P.W. McElliott, Dubuque, sub deacon; and the sermon by Monsignor John Molloy. Burial was made in the family lot in Calvary cemetery, with six nephews as pall bearers: Joseph and James Weiler, James A. McElliott, Joseph McElliott, James D. McElliott, and Andrew Weiler.
Miss McElliott, daughter of the late James McElliott was born in Ryan, Iowa, Oct. 10, 1868, grew to young womanhood and since 1917 had been housekeeper for her brother.
Surviving are four brothers; Rev. T.J. McElliott, Marion; and W. T., D. A., and P. F. McElliott, all of Ryan. One sister, Mrs. Nicholas Weiler and two brothers, John and James McElliott, preceded her in death.
The death of Miss McElliott brings a great sorrow to the brothers, to whom is extended the sincere sympathy of many friends.
