Richard J. "Dick" Hentges, 69, of Masonville, died at his home on Friday, Feb. 4,2000, from cancer.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 7,2000, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Masonville, with Rev. Ivan Nienhaus presiding. Burial was at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in rural Masonville. Memorials may be directed to Home Health Hospice in Manchester.
Dick was born on Aug. 23, 1930, in Masonville, the son of Arthur and Frances L. (Penney) Hentges. He attended school in Masonville and Lamont. After spending a time in California, Dick returned to Masonville. In September, 1950, Dick went to work for the Iowa division of the Illinois Central Railroad. On Oct. 26, 1950, Dick was united in marriage to Wanda L. Theel at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Masonville. The couple made their home in Masonville. Dick retired from the Illinois Central Railroad in 1990 after 40 years on Maintenance Of Way.
Dick was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Masonville. He was also a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way union, a member and served as fire chief for the Masonville Volunteer Fire Department , and was a member of the Masonville Council. Dick enjoyed listening to country music but loved his time with his family, grandchildren and great-granddaughter.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Lou; his mother Frances Jackson of Manchester; eight children, Michael ( Del Rose) Hentges of Dundee, Kenneth (LuAnne) Hentges of Winthrop, Vickie Ziel of Manchester, Mark (Kay) Hentges of Waverly, Jeff (Linda) Hentges of Manchester, Rick Hentges of Masonville, Penney Cooper of Central City, and Lonnie W. Hentges of Manchester; eight grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Dick was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Hentges, and his stepfather, Alex Jackson.
Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home, Manchester, was in charge of arrangements.
