Mabel M. Guthrie, 89, of rural Hopkinton died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at Jones Regional Medical Center in Anamosa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sand Springs with Rev. John Kremer officiating. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Monticello. Visitation is from 2-9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, at the Kramer Funeral Home, Monticello, where a scripture service will be at 6:30 p.m.
Mabel was born March 21, 1910 in Hallbrite Saskatchewan, Canada, the daughter of Nicholas and Rosena (Atkinson) Wilgenbusch. On Oct 12, 1938 she married J. Russel Guthrie in Sand Springs. Together they farmed in the area until his death on July 28, 1955. She continued on the farm until retiring in 1968, occupying her time with the hobbies of gardening, crocheting, sewing, playing cards and woodworking.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Elizabeth Burke of Dubuque, Ruth Ann Burton of Huntsville, Al: one son, James F.(Sue) Guthrie of Hopkinton; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; eight sisters, Viola Trumm of Coggon, Myrtle Krogman and Mary Lauersdorf, both of Manchester, Gladys Kirby and Laurabell (Art) Feldmann, both of Hopkinton, Rosella Britt of Buck Creek, Elsie (Bill) Ries of Cascade, and Alice (Bob) Kirpes of Dubuque; two brothers, Thomas (Rita) Wilgenbusch of Monticello, and Herman "Bub" Wilgenbusch of Buck Creek; one brother-in-law, Beriah Kenny of Manchester and one sister-in-law, Dorothy Guthrie of Rhodes.
Mabel was preceded in death by her husband;one son-in-law, Robert R. Burke; one brother John Wilgenbusch; one sister, Ethel Kenny.
Kramer Funeral home, Monticello, is in charge of arrangements.
