In Response To: Re: Searching for Ancestors (Hope Burkett)

I'll be glad to tell you what I know although it might be a little long for this website. I think I'll tell you a little here, and then maybe send you more via private email. I have photocopies of Bible records too if I can find them. I could send those if you don't already have them. It may take me a little while to locate them, but I know they are already scanned.

First off, my husband descends from your Samantha's half-sister, Susannah, who married Jeremiah Johnson. Both were daughters of George Hollett. He married first Clarissa Vallow 1833 in Harrison County, Ohio. Their children were: Nancy, Rachel, John, Susanna, and Elizabeth. Clarissa died in 1845.

George then married Catherine Locey in 1846 and their children were: Samantha, Clarissa, and Sarah. I've never researched Catherine's line because my husband descended from the first wife. I don't think it would be hard to research. George died in 1882 and Catherine died in 1881. I'm sure you will find Locey spelled as Losey too. Susannah (Hollett) Johnson's second husband was Ezra Losey. There's probably a relationship between him and George's second wife, your ancestor, Catherine Locey.

George Hollett was the son of John Hollett and Elizabeth Worrell. John was the son of John Hollett Jr. and Elizabeth Burgess. John Jr. was the son of John Hollett and Elizabeth Baker from England. I don't really know anything about the wives of these men. I believe most of them left wills, and there are some Bible records too. I haven't worked on this line in ages, so I'm a little foggy on them.

You probably already have George Hollett's estate, but here it is just in case. I immagine it is also available on the Internet somewhere as this is a well researched family. I'm sure this is not where to post it. I also have copies of other estate papers. I could post other estate papers from this family too. The website is re-arranging my formatting, so things may seem a little messed up.

Here is the obituary of my husband's ancestor:
MRS. EZRA LOSY

Susannah Hollet was born in Harrison County, Ohio July 18, 1839. At the age of 15 she came with her parents to Davis County, Iowa where she resided until her death June 24, 1923 at the home of her daughter Mrs. D.W. Burgher near Udell, Iowa. She was 83 years, 11 months and 11 days old.
On December 11, 1856 she was married to Jeremiah Johnson who died August 22, 1881. To this union were born 9 children, two of whom preceded her in death. The children living are: George, John, Grant, Sherman, Samuel, Mrs. Emma Southern, and Mary E. Burgher, all of them being present at her last sickness and at her death. In 1902 Mrs. Johnson was married to Ezra Losey, now deceased. She spent most of her years in the vicinity of Monterey.
The Johnson Homestead where she and her husband began housekeeping has remained in possession of some of the family and is now owned by her son George. Deceased was the last of her father's family to survive. She was a devout Christian, having been a member of the Christain Church at Monterey since girlhood. Besides her children she leaves 23 grand children and one great, great grandchild.
Funeral services were conducted by D.W. Hastings assisted by Arthur Stookesberry at Monteray June 25, 1923 when a large gathering of old friends and neighbors paid loving tribute of respect to the deceased. Six grandsons were pallbearers: Jerry, Harry, and Lloyd Southern, sons of Henry Southern; Jerry Johnson, son of J.H. Johnson. The body was laid to rest in the Johnson cemetery, 2 miles south of Monterey on the old Johnson homestead.
