Pioneer Resident Dies; Is Gold Star Member of American Legion Auxiliary

KIRON: Funeral services were conducted Friday for Mrs. Anna Norelius of Kiron from the Bethel Lutheran church at 2 o’clock with Pastor H. Lester Peterson, officiating. Her granddaughter, Francis Lundell, sang "One Sweetly Solemn Thought’ and "Nearer Still Nearer," accompanied at the piano by Mrs. M. A. Sandstrom. The organist was Mrs. George Lundell. Casket bearers were Russell Linman, Raymond Larson, George Johnson, Art Jacobson, Herbert Ward and Charles Baker. Beautiful floral tributes spoke silently of her high esteem. Interment was in the Bethel cemetery.

Obituary

Mrs. Anna Bergstrom Norelius was born in Helsinglan, Sweden, April 29, 1870, and passed away Dec. 4. 1946, at the age of 76 years and 7 months. She came to this country at the age of 3 years and with her parents located in Orion, Illinois. She came to Kiron in the spring of 1889, and was united in marriage to Francis Norelius at Kiron of December 12 of that year, living on a farm in what is known as Old Kiron for 38 years. They moved to Kiron in 1929 which has since been her home.

Nine children were born to them, six of whom survive. They are: Archie of Wall Lake, Raymond of Denver, Colorado; Quinton, Grace, (Mrs. M. E. Lundell) and Ralph of Kiron and Elizabeth, (Mrs. H. W. Sevde) of Des Moines. Other survivors are three sisters, Emma (Mrs. F. Ehret) Denver, Colorado; Sadie, (Mrs. R. H. Buller) of Kiron, Elna, (Mrs. J. B. Ragsdale) of Sierraville, California and one brother John Bergstrom also of Sierraville, nine grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, Clarence, who died in England in World War I, a daughter, Elivra, (Mrs. L. J. Stratton) of Odebolt and one son, Brian of Kiron.

She was a member of the Bethel Lutheran church, Bethel Ladies Aid and the Women's Missionary society. She was an interested and active member of the Home and Garden club, the Coffee club and a Gold Star member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

She had enjoyed unusually good health up until May of this year, when she suffered a stroke. She recovered from this illness so fully that she was able to go to Orion, Illinois in September for a visit with childhood friends and since then had been able to take an active part in church and other activities. On Nov. 30, she was taken ill, having suffered a heart attack, gradually growing weaker until her death on Wednesday morning. She maintained consciousness until a half hour before her passing, and was able to talk to her children, and quietly slept away at 12:20 p.m.

Those attending from a distance were Robert, Elmer and Janice Nordell, Mrs. Roy Swanson, all of Omaha, Margaret Mitchell, Kansas City, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. Ed England, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Magnuson, Mrs. Duane Wilcox, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Magnuson, Leslie Magnuson all of Arthur, Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Norelius, Denver Colo; Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Sevde of DesMoines, Mrs. C. E. Morton and E. A. Norelius of Denison, and Donal Lundell of Webster City.
