KIRON...Kermit Gilbert Benson was the eldest son of Arthur and Christine Benson, born December 18, 1909 in the place that was his home until his death. He attended the local school and following graduation from high school, he found employment in his home community. From 1935 to 1940 he was custodian of the local school, 7 January 1933 he was married at Fremont, Nebraska to Jessie Nelson, They had two sons.

Mr. Benson was employed as a postal clerk in Kiron in 1940 and five years later he was appointed Postmaster, which position he hfld at the time of his death. Mr. and Mrs. Benson were enjoying a visit in Colorado Springs, Colorado with their son Burdette and family and Sunday evening he suffered a sudden failure of heart function that caused his unexpected death at the age of 63 years, 7 months and 26 days.

Mr. Benson served his community many years as former Red Cross Chairman of the County, a former secretary of the Kiron School board. Secretary/Treasurer of the Kiron Fire Department, a Community Club officer member of the National Association of Postmasters.

Since the age of four years he was identified with the ministries of the Kiron Evangelical Free Church. Among other services to his church, he served for 13 years as Secretary of the Sunday school.

Survivors include his wife, Jessie, two sons, Leonard of Kiron and Burdette of Colorado Springs, Colorado; their wives; two grandchildren; a brother, Lloyd; and a sister (Lenora), Mrs. Howard Larson, both of Kiron. His parents and a grandson preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at the Evangelical Free Church at Kiron Thursday afternoon with Rev. T. W. Danielson officiating. Marilee Benson, soloist, sang "In The Garden" and "How Great Thou Art" accompanied by Mrs. Richard Gustafson, organist. Pallbearers were Rodger Larson, John Larson, Gary Carlson, Donald Lindstrom, Duane Krueger, and Lew Gene Indorf.

Interment was in the Kiron Cemetery.
