Funeral Held At Kiron Thursday, May 30, 1946

Kiron: Arthur Enoch Benson, son of Hannah and B. N. Benson, was born June 30, 1883, north west of Kiron, on what is now known as the Reecy farm. He lived there and attended rural public school until the year 1900, when he moved with his parents to Kiron, which has since been his home. Oct. 9. 1908, he was united in marriage to Christine Hintz. To this union three children were born, namely: Kermit, Lloyd and Lenora.

He has followed the trade of carpenter since he was 14 and was fulfilling his task when death over took him, Monday, May 27 at 3:15 p.m. at the age of 62 years, 10 months, and 27 days. His love for music was manifest as he conducted the town band for a number of years. Civic minded as he was, he will be missed in the community having faithfully served on the Kiron school board since the organization of the present school. He was a charter member of the Kiron Fire department and served the town as treasurer, assessor and councilman, intermittently for many years. Mr. Benson was a devoted husband and a loving father, known for his kindly spirit and cheerful disposition, having a good word for every one.

He is survived by his widow, Christine, three children, Kermit, Lloyd, and Mrs. Howard Larson, all of Kiron. Four grandchildren, namely Leonard and Burdette Benson, Stuart Benson and Roger Benson(Larson?). One sister, Ellen Stone of Omaha, one brother, Fred A. Benson of Los Angeles, California, four half-sisters, Esther Lundgren, Denison, Helen Rolfe, San Diego, California, Jennie Read of Oskaloosa, Iowa, and Anna Kullberg of Cherokee, one half brother, E. E. Williams of Northhomed, Minnesota beside many others. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, three brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon at 1:30 from the H. M. Larson home and at 2:00 o'clock from the Evangelical Free church. Rev. C. G. Frederick officiating, assisted by Rev. Carl Holmberg. The hymn, "When They Ring the Golden Bells," was sung in a trio by Mrs. Russell Gustafson, Mrs. Forest Anderson and Milton Nelson and a duet "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" was sung by Mrs. Anna Garner and Glenn Goetsch, accompanied at the piano by Jeanette Cedergren. Honorary pall bearers were G. A. Norelius, A. Sederberg, O. E. Bergren, O. J. Larson, Robert Sjogren and E. M. Mauritz. Active bearers were Bert Lindstrom, Levi Anderson, C. E. Dahl, Leslie Larson, H. L. Ward and David Johnson. Interment was in the family plot in the Kiron cemetery.

Relatives attending from a distance were Fred A. Benson, Los Angeles, Mrs. G. Hansen, Holdredge, Nebraska, Mrs. Ellen Stone, Leona Stone, LaVon Hansen, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Stone and Delores and Mrs. Alta Jungerberg all of Omaha, Adolph and Emil Hintz of Bloomfield, Nebraska, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hintz, and Donald and Mr. and Mrs. Martin Jurgensen, Storm Lake, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Hintz and LaVerda of Mapleton, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ackelbien of Charter Oak, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Truelson of Ricketts, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Kunze, Charter Oak, Dorothy and Herbert and Duane Ackelbien, Charter Oak, Leona Ackelbien, Mapleton, Mrs. Esther Lundgren, Denison, Elry Stephen, Battle Creek, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Roll, Mr. and Mrs. Byron Stephen of Arthur, and Max Maas Jr. Charter Oak.
