We have Oliver McMahan b 1818 OH. He first lived in Albany IL and later was a businessman and banker in Clinton IA (just across the Miss. River). He did have some sort of association in steamboats. Oliver had a brother Gregory who was a steamboat captain. Not sure if he is your O. P. McMahan. He also had a brother Gregory who was a captain on the Albany to St. Louis route. And, they both ran a ferry from Albany to Camanche in the 1840s sometime.
