DECATUR, Ill. — Charles R. Jones III, of Decatur, IL, formerly of Clinton, died Wednesday, February 4, 2009, at the Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 8th, at the Pape Funeral Home in Clinton. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery, Fulton. Casket bearers will be Gary and Brandy Spencer, Jim and Mark Jamison, Brandon Chandler and Michael Anderson. Charles was born in Elwood, KS, on October 25, 1931, the son of Charles R. and Bernice A. Howard Jones, II. Charles served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He married Donna Rae Jamison on December 29, 1958, in Arkansas. Donna died in 1989. Charles worked in the maintenance department for the Collis Company in Clinton for 30 years, retiring in 1994. He was a member of the American Killifish Association. Charles enjoyed Native American archeology and finding and collecting arrowheads. He enjoyed antiques, collectables, gardening and sitting on his porch listening to music. Charles is survived by three sons, Robert (Nancy) Jamison of Clinton, Ronald Jones of Decatur and William (Nicky) Jones of Rock Island; two daughters, Theresa (Nate) Ullrich of Clinton and Hope Gordon of Davenport; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jeanette (Ernie) Spencer of Lyndon, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a son, Jim Arey in 2007. Memorials may be made to DMH Hospice in Decatur.
