DEWITT — Larry L. Johannsen, 68, DeWitt, died Saturday afternoon, January 24, 2009, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport.He was born December 21, 1940, in Clinton, to LeRoy and Wilma (Barker) Johannsen. Larry graduated from Charlotte High School in 1961 where he played basketball. He was employed by International Paper Company, Clinton, for 36 years until retirement. In his retirement years, he enjoyed working in the shop at Dirt Tamer Chassis in rural DeWitt, with his friend Larry Goldbeck. Larry enjoyed stock car and NASCAR racing and in earlier years, hunting and fishing. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt, and DeWitt Fitness Center. Larry was a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes. Surviving are his children, Trent Johannsen, Camanche, Brad Johannsen, Prophetstown, Illinois, and Angie Johannsen, Davenport; grandchildren, Jessica, Chance, Aleshia, Sabaz and Selena; a sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Richard Stevens, DeWitt; a sister-in-law, Josie Johannsen, DeWitt. Preceding him in death were his parents, a granddaughter, Cecilia Johannsen, and a brother, Dick. Family and friends may visit at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 27, 2009. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2009, in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Timothy Carr officiating. Burial will be at Clinton Lawn Cemetery.
