DEWITT — Lloyd G. Barber, 84, DeWitt, died Sunday morning, January 25, 2009, at Westwing Place, DeWitt. Lloyd George Barber was born September 18, 1924, in Welton, Iowa, to Lee and Dorthea (Wulf) Barber. He was a 1941 graduate of Welton High School. Lloyd served in the Army during World War II in the European Front. He married the former Betty Hewer June 3, 1944, in Chicago. Lloyd was a maintenance supervisor for the Iowa Department of Transportation, managing the toll bridges on the Mississippi River. He retired in 1992 with over 40 years of service. Following retirement, Lloyd drove truck seasonally for Twin State Engineering Company. He was a member of the Eugene McManus American Legion Post #238, DeWitt. Lloyd was an avid gardener and enjoyed playing cards with friends as well as watching football and basketball. Surviving are his children, Dale Barber and his wife, Judy, Bettendorf, David Barber and his wife, Diane, Inman, South Carolina, and Carol Madsen, Eldridge; grandchildren, Jennifer (Mike) Anderson, Gretchen (John) Lindle, Jon (Michelle) Barber, Chris (Michelle) Barber and Corey (Lil) Adamski; great-grandchildren, Katie, Matthew, Nick, Megan, Tim and Taylor; a sister-in-law, Babe (Clarence) Barber, DeWitt. Preceding Lloyd in death were his wife, Betty, on March 23, 1997; his parents; sisters, Mildred Paulsen, Ioma Steward and Jessica Hanrahan; and brothers, Elmer, Bob and Clarence. The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2009. A family graveside service will be held Thursday at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt. Memorials are suggested to Westwing Place Activity Fund and Eugene McManus American Legion Post #238, DeWitt.
