FULTON, Ill. — Roy M. Van Kampen, 93, of Fulton, IL, died at his home on Sunday, January 18, 2009. Roy was born January 28, 1915, the son of John and Anna (Hook) Van Kampen. He married Marie Louise Gretencord on April 25, 1943, in Ottawa, IL. She preceded him in death on March 27, 1999. He was educated in the Fulton Schools graduating in 1932. After graduation he operated a mattress business in Ottawa, IL, and from 1943 to 1946 was employed by the Chicago Bridge and Iron Works in the Seneca, IL, ship yards building platforms for 20 MM anti aircraft guns. He later returned to the Fulton area and was employed by Eclipse Lawnmower factory in Prophetstown, IL, and for 8 years at Curtis Co., Clinton, IA. He retired after 15 years with Clinton Corn Processing Plant in 1978. He was a member of the First Reformed Church, Fulton, IL. Roy is survived by five sons, Gary (Bernadine) Van Kampen, John Van Kampen, LeeRoy (Dianna) Van Kampen Sr., Loren (Suzanne) Van Kampen and Roger “Woody” (Sally) Van Kampen all of Fulton, IL; one sister, Mildred Workman of Fulton, IL; one brother, Bert VanKampen of Chicago Heights, IL; eighteen grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marie; four sisters, Helen Wiersema, Della Yarbrough, Irma Carroll and Mildred Van Kampen in infancy; and one brother, Gerald Van Kampen. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday in the Fulton Chapel of the McDonald Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 22, 2009, also in the funeral homes, with the Reverend Edith Lenz, pastor of the First Reformed Church officiating. Burial will be in the Fulton Township Cemetery, Fulton, IL. A memorial has been established to Heartland Hospice. Online condolences may be sent to the mcdonaldfuneralhomes.com.
